In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
